The IBS Advisors Home Energy Rater (HERS Rater) course has been developed to maximize the student’s potential for success on the RESNET National Core Competency Exam and in their career as a Home Energy Rater or Energy Auditor. We incorporate techniques and materials that address the different learning styles and intentionally keep the class sizes small, enabling the instructors to spend more time with the individual students. This personalized attention and focus on training excellence has produced a success rate rarely seen in this industry.

We teach this course over a two week period of time, 3 days each week to maximize student retention. During this course, students will perform a projected rating based upon blueprints and specifications from a case study threaded throughout the textbook. At the end of the training, they will go into the field and apply what they’ve learned and perform inspections, testing and software analysis to produce a confirmed rating on an existing home. Every student will get hands-on instruction on the equipment and will be required to pass an examination on the use of the blower door and duct testing devices.
